35 million USD for forest development project

A 35.1 million USD forest development project will be carried out in five Central Highlands and southern provinces, said a senior official of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Luong Van Tien, Director of  Forestry Project Management Board said the capital of the project includes 22.7 million USD in soft loans from the World Bank, 6.72 million USD in grant from the Netherlands and the remainder from the Government.
The project aims to protect and develop forests with high biodiversity and help reduce poverty for ethnic minority people in the Central Highlands provinces of Kon Tum, Dac Nong and Lam Dong, and southern provinces of Binh Phuoc and Dong Nai.
The project will help protect 56,000 ha of forests in Chu Mom Ray National Park, 72,000 ha of forests in Cat Tien National Park and develop sustainable use plans for 300,000 ha of natural forests in buffer zones in 43 communes.
The project will also help improve living conditions and generate jobs for local people and train local officials.
