How to retrieve the nursery after flood

Flood is frequent this year. The damage is huge in many regions. How to minimize the loss when the nursery is hit by flood? Followed are some detailed measures.

Draining and desilting
Firstly, the seeper in the nursery should be drained immediately after the calamity to shorten the time of the planting stocks being dipped in water. When the seedbed is covered with silt, drain the seeper and flush the seedbed and stocks when the flood recedes and the mud is still soft. At the same time, dredge the trench and clear off the silt and trash in it. If it is necessary, flush the farmland surface with pump, until the original surface soil layer is exposed. The silt will not harden on the farmland surface. The air permeability of the soil will not be affected. Fewer stocks will die.

Some think that the silt brought into the farmland by flood is a kind of fertile mud and can increase the fertility of soil. In fact, the fertility can only be increased by plowing thoroughly. For the land that has planting stocks on it, the hardened silt only affects the permeability of the soil. The root of plants will die of not being able to respire. Thus the silt in the nursery should be removed in time. If the silt cannot be removed, the nursery must be plowed and sanitized in time.

Examine the planting stocks
For the stocks that are totally submerged in the silt, push the silt aside and examine the stocks. If the branches and roots have not turned into purple brown, the stock may be brought through, and should be retrieved in time. If the branches and roots have turned into purple brown or rotten, the stock has suffocated and died. There is no need to retrieve such stocks.

For the seedbed that is not covered by silt, clear the trash on the stocks as soon as possible, clean the mud on the leaves and buds, and bring straight the lodged stocks. Some young stocks are rushed over by flood, but their roots dont expose, and theres no way to straight them. These stocks can be let alone and applied medicines and fertilizers directly.

Prevent diseases and weed
When the farmland is removed of silt and the stocks are straightened, the surface of the plant must be dried on sunny days and sprayed medicine to prevent epidemic diseases. The medicament such as plant protector, dithane, virus pioneer, bacteria killer, sterilizer I, etc can be sprayed. Some foliar fertilizers can be mixed in the medicament to renew the stock growth. Spray once more 5-7 days after the first time. The lodged stocks will be entirely straight up 7-10 days later.

Some mid-size and small farmlands with silt not cleared are easy to plow. For these lands, the agglomerated silt needs to be hoed after the silt is hardened. The silt that has integrated with the seedbed soil needs to be hoed with the original seedbed soil and break into small pieces. Dont break it too finely. This is to ventilate the soil so that the roots of planting stocks can respire. After digging, irrigate the root in time, or pour medical fertilizer fluid to prevent and cure the epidemic diseases. This is to kill the virus and germs in the silt, so that the planting stocks can resume growth rapidly.

The weeds grow fast on flooded plots. Therefore, it needs to be carefully controlled. More work should be done to weed.
